Modern is a for the most part defined as a format, but much like Legacy in its heyday you always get some fresh new decks that pop up and take you by surprise. Such was this deck that almost took down a 200+ plus PTQ.

UG Faeries

Modern Format

Creatures: 21

Scryb Ranger
3 Mistbind Clique
3 Vendilion Clique
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Noble Hierarch
4 Spellstutter Sprite
1 Venser, Shaper Savant

Instants: 9

2 Voidslime
2 Remand
2 Cryptic Command
3 Mana Leak

Artifacts: 7

3 Sword of Feast and famine
2 Sword of Fire and Ice
2 Vedalken Shackles

Lands: 23

4 Breeding Pool
2 Mutavault
Verdant Catacombs
Misty Rainforest
2 Tectonic Edge
6 Islands

3 Kitchen Finks
2 Spellskite
2 Engineered Explosives
2 Threads of Disloyalty
2 Scavenging Ooze
2 Spell Snare
2 Hurkyll’s Recall

The cool thing about this deck is that you actually accelerate into some pretty nice stuff.

Turn 1 : Noble Hierarch off a Forest of Breeding Pool.

Turn 2: Mutavault and pass turn or Breeding Pool

Opponent’s Turn: they cast a 2-drop.

Activate Mutavault to turn it into a creature then Spellstutter Sprite their spell.

Cast a Scryb Ranger, return a forest to hand to untap Noble Hierarch and cast a Spellstutter Sprite to counter their card.

noble hierarchMana dorks. They don’t just look good, they ARE good!

It’s got way better tricks but that’s just a small early game example.  You can also Time Walk your opponents that classic way by going Mistbind Clique on their upkeep and then countering something with Cryptic Command later while bouncing your Mistbind Clique to hand and having another chance to Time Walk your opponent next upkeep as well. It gets even better if you championed a Vendilion Clique with it since you get a great deal of value all while getting rid of their best card (kind of) and gaining hand knowledge.

vendilion cliqueDid you hear about the new cool Blue/Green Faeries deck?

voidslime bubbleAngel meets tentacle

The green splash is pretty sweet even for cards like Voidslime. Yes, Squelch or Trickbind do the ‘counter activated ability’ thing as well, but Voidslime is much more versatile (depite not having the Split Second of Trickbind of the Draw a Card of Squelch). Your Scryb Rangers do very good work in various matchups, like untapping your Mistbind Cliques or tapped attackers equipped with Swords in order to surprise block and kill their attackers. If you think you will miss your next land drop, you can even end of turn the Scryb Ranger.

This will allow you to tap your mana dudes (Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch) as well as your lands for mana, then untap one via Scryb Ranger. You then bounce a Forest to your hand and then play it as your land drop. You’ve just generated 2 extra mana! This is not an uncommon play for when you want to cast and equip a Sword of Feast and Famine on your turn 3 (even with the missed land drop). Obviously you get insane value if you connect with the equipped creature, since you get to untap and setup a Spellstutter Sprite counter (or Mana Leak). Don’t be sad if your counterspell was Voidslime either (you can activate the Scryb Ranger ability on your opponent’s turn as well to generate another mana and allow you to go ahead and Voidslime their spell.

scryb rangerFaeries used to be green. True story!

The deck is worth a try for anyone looking for something cool and different to try (I always am) in a  format that is still open to innovative brews. I am not a fan of the overpriced Bitterblossom at the moment either, but it still can be a ‘thing’ depending on how the metagame shift.

I was a little shocked to see that this little gem is being released in Magic 2015:

hushing gryffYeah … we probably don’t want our opponents casting Gryff here

I really like it when cards that are meh (like Torpor Orb) get a body attached to their ability to make them very playable. Things like Magus of the Moon, Thalia, etc. It gives you the opportunity to maindeck hate cards with decent stats in decks that are more aggressive all while keeping the aggro plan going.

While a budget version of the deck is possible, I would not really recommend it. You can’t fully replace cards like Noble Hierarch and swords, etc. Spellstutter Sprite is criminally underplayed in a format where it can counter soooo many spells with it (even without the extra Fairies in play). Wish I still had that Spellstutter playmat I did her holding an Umezawa’s Jitte

Sometimes you make a random Google search and are just blown away by the results. I encountered this deck while trying to find ‘budget edh decks’ or something along those lines. Amidst the infinite posts of people saying: “Ashling, the Pilgrim and 99 Mountains. LOL”, this little gem was unearthed. Granted, surprise is a big factor in this deck’s success as it will probably not work twice (then again…). Boseiju gives you that extra oomph! to overcome counterspells when you want to ‘combo off’.

Dark Sphere Dreams

Commander Format

Creatures: 5

1 Maralen of the Mornsong
1 Memnite
1 Ornithoper
1 Phyrexian Walker
1 Shield Sphere

Instants: 2

1 Ad Nauseam
1 Dark Ritual

Sorceries: 1

1 Sickening Dreams

Artifacts: 12

1 Expedition Map
1 Dark Sphere
1 Elixir of Immortality
1 Everflowing Chalice
1 Feldon`s Cane
1 Jeweled Amulet
1 Lotus Bloom
1 Lotus Petal
1 Spellbook
1 Venser`s Journal
1 Welding Jar
1 Astral Cornucopia

Lands: 80

72 Swamp
1 Peat Bog
1 Ebon Stronghold
1 Reliquary Tower
1 Boseiju, Who Shelters All
1 Glacial Chasm
1 Buried Ruin
1 Crystal Vein
1 Gemstone Caverns

The deck is simply trying to accomplish one thing: Cast Ad Nauseam and win (preferably cast an end-of-turn Ad Nauseam). There are a few more cards we can maybe add to the main deck in order to increase our chances of surviving the early game, but I wanted to just reall focus on how little this thing actually costs to make. In fact, here`s the bare bones version you can make (you don’t even have to sleeve your deck at this point since the sleeves will be worth more than the deck itself… unless you use penny sleeves)

penny sleeves

Remember these babies ? Probably from your first ever MTG deck?

You win by casting a Sickening Dreams with a full hand (aka. your whole deck give or take) then discarding a bunch of cards ( roughly 50? depending on how much life other players are at). You then activate the ‘awesome’ Dark Sphere to halve the damage to you from Sickening Dreams. Of course, counterspells will ruin your day, so you can set up by getting a Boseiju early on with Maralen on turn 4 or an earlier Expedition Map. The rest of the deck is there to accelerate us, even a turn 3 Astral Cornucopia is fine if we have the Ad Nauseam already in hand so we can ‘go off’ on turn 4. You need colored mana though, so Sol Ring is surprisingly absent (2 black required on turn 3 if you are casting Maralen on that turn). The other lands are mostly accelerants or buy us time (Glacial Chasm) or can recur a countered spell (Dark Sphere). Elixir of Immoratality can allow us to start over everytime we whiff our combo as well (Assuming Maralen can remain in play). It’s definitely an under 50$ commander deck and then under 10$ if you go with the ‘no frills’ version.

1 Sickening Dreams
1 Elixir of Immortality

It doesn’t even merit its own little decklist box thingy, that’s how cheap it is.

For those of you that are in the mood for upgrading the deck in value, tricks or resilience you can go ahead and run some Gatherer searches. So far I’ve got:

Ivory Tower
Mishra’s Bauble
Urza’s Bauble
Phyrexian Tower
Slaughter pact

You can always keep it lying around and troll newer players with it, kinda like a ‘Magic Trick’ in its own right. Right?

dark sphere

PS: Yes, it actually took me a while to find a ‘DDT’ in Magic: the Gathering but it happened. Thank you mark Tedin for drawing such an awesome card (Repentant Vampire). Also, thanks to Sasha who asked me for this card, since I would have probably never stumbled upon it on my own.

World Magic Cup Qualifier Goodies

The promo card given out to everyone participating is:

geist promo

Where’s that FOIL angel token I had lying around?

Much like the Vengevine of last year, the card is a Mythic and sure to be in demand. Be it Modern or Commander, Geist of Saint Traft always wiggles his way into some kind of deck. A lot of players might just want a more ‘affordable’ foil copy for their cubes (Along with all those sweet Conspiracy FOIL draft artifacts and Hidden Agenda cards). If you’re good/lucky enough to make it into the Top 8, you can even claim this awesome playmat:

lili mat

Is that Liliana’s veil?

I’m guessing this is a not so subtle hint that Liliana is the black planeswalker in Magic 2015. We do catch a small glimpse of her in the Trailer for Duels of the Planeswalkers 2015   Garruk is the main character it seems. Is he a flip card? Monoblack? or something really really bizarre. I’m almost willing to bet one of his abilities will be a Beast Within. Go on down and give your almost last hurrah to Standard, give it the good old ‘college try’!

Nykthos Green

nykthos green

Here’s a little something to do with your extra copies of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx copies you have lying around:

Nykthos Green

Modern Format

Creatures: 23

4 Arbor Elf
4 Burning Tree Emissary
4 Eternal Witness
3 Birds of Paradise
3 Wistful Selkie
3 Primeval Titan
1 Joraga Treespeaker
1 Craterhoof Behemoth

Sorceries: 6

2 Genesis Wave
4 Primal Command

Planeswalkers: 4

4 Garruk Wildspeaker

Enchantments: 6
2 Abundant Growth
4 Utopia Sprawl

Lands: 21

1 Temple Garden
Stomping Ground
4 Verdant Catacombs
2 Misty Rainforest
1 Kessig Wolf Run
4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

1 Stony Silence
1 Spellskite
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Rest in Peace
2 Ghost Quarter
2 Fracturing Gust
1 Dismember
2 Courser of Kruphix
1 Combust
1 Ancient Grudge
1 Beast Within
1 Obstinate Baloth

The original list ran 1 x Grafdigger’s Cage, but I opted to run 1 x Beast Within instead (also cage stops your Genesis Wave from putting creatures into play). I also cut a Stony Silence in favor of an Obstinate Baloth. I find it is a rather decent surprise card against non-targeted discard (Liliana of the Veil) as well as being a nice pocket of life for when you are not being the aggressor.

You also get to cast this sweet card. It still looks awesome despite being about 10 + years old.

The deck can have some absurd sequences, such as:

Turn 1 : Forest (or Stomping Ground or Temple Garden) into Utopia Sprawl

Turn 2: Burning-Tree Emissary, Burning-Tree Emissary, play Nykthos, tap for 5 green mana. Cast Garruk Wildspeaker, untap Nykthos and Utopia Sprawl land, tap Nykthos for 7 (plus the one mana you still have leftover) to cast Primeval Titan or Primal Command (putting one of their lands back on top and getting Eternal Witness maybe?)

Turn 3: Opponent is completely disgusted and is unsure that this even actually turn 3.

Some cards like Wistful Selkie can be Boggart Ram-Gang or Leatherback Baloth if you’re feeling slightly more aggressive, but I prefer the cantrip and they both pretty much contribute the same towards devotion. Having only run the deck once, I can’t really say that Selkie is the right card here. I also adore Eternal Witness in this particular deck since it does a lot for it. It can even do ‘unimpressive’ things like grab back a fetchland if you haven’t accelerated at all, so that you can cast your turn 4 Garruk Wildspeaker. The deck also features another card that’s been slightly underplayed in Modern thus far:

primeval titan

Remember this guy ?

Playing Nykthos Green will oftentimes feel like you are playing a game of Commander (minus Primeval Titan, since he’s banned). It’s actually one of the more reasonably priced Modern decks out there ( you don’t ‘have’ to run the fetches) and its cost to fun ratio is pretty great. Give it a try, you won’t regret it.

Warning:  Casting Primal Command versus mill decks might cause opponents to rage quit.

Aggro Loam

A long time ago, back when i played lots of Legacy, Aggro Loam was my deck of choice. You could get so much value from Life from the Loam and powerful lands, especially before Deathrite Shaman was printed.

life from the loam

the little engine that could

With the banning of Deathrite Shaman in Modern there is a window for graveyard decks to become better. Some people have been trying to port the Assault Loam strategy to modern. I’ve seen many different lists pop up online in the Magic Online Daily Events :  some run the same creature package as the old Legacy version (Dark Confidant, Tarmogoyf and Countryside Crusher), some splash white for Knight of the Reliquary and Lingering Souls, some lists play blue instead of black and others play Young Pyromancer with Smallpox.

My list combines two cards I’ve always wanted to play in the same deck: Young Pyromancer and Lingering Souls.

This is my current list:

Aggro Loam

Modern Deck

Creatures: 4

4 Young Pyromancer

Instants: 5

4 Abrupt Decay
1 Darkblast

Sorceries: 23

4 Faithless Looting
1 Inquisition of Kozilek
1 Thoughtseize
4 Raven’s Crime
1 Flame Jab
4 Smallpox
4 Life from the Loam
4 Lingering Souls

Enchantments: 3

3 Seismic Assault

Lands: 25

4 Blackcleave Cliffs
4 Verdant Catacombs
2 Arid Mesa
2 Graven Cairns
2 Stomping Ground
1 Blood Crypt
1 Overgrown Tomb
1 Godless Shrine
1 Forest
1 Swamp
1 Horizon Canopy
2 Raging Ravine
1 Treetop Village
1 Pendelhaven
1 Ghost Quarter

2 Duress
2 Anger Of The Gods
2 Ancient Grudge
2 Vengeful Pharaoh
2 Surgical Extraction
2 Syphon Life
2 Engineered Explosives
1 Vault of the Archangel

The wins

The main win condition is supposed to be Seismic Assault + Life from the Loam but in reality I’ve won many more games with Young Pyromancer and Lingering Souls. With Retrace spells, Young Pyro turns all your discarded lands into 1/1 s and with Loam you can get a lot of those tokens. Casting Lingering Souls with a Young Pyromancer on the field gets you 3 tokens, 6 if you cast Lingering Souls from your hand and Flashback it. You can easily build a scary board from scratch with these cards. Every time you Dredge a Lingering Souls you basically get free tokens.

young pyromancergiving value to all your instants and sorceries has never been sooooo good!

The downside of Young Pyromancer is that as the only creature in the deck, it will eat all the opposing creature removal so you have to be careful when casting them. You can wait until you destroyed your opponent’s hand with the discard spells or play it while having some untapped lands to cast spells so you get some guaranteed value from it. Also, they are our best win vs uninteractives decks. If we manage to slow down their combo, we can then kill them with tokens.

The tokens can be used both for offence and defence, Spirit tokens trade with most flying creatures in the format (aside from Restoration Angel and Celestial Colonnade) and chumping with tokens until you stabilize is fine. The Godless Shrine one-of is here solely to cast Lingering Souls from your hand and to activate Vault of the Archangel from the board, but in most games you won’t even need it.

The most powerful interaction in the deck is Seismic Assault + Life from the Loam. These cards together can both control the board and win you the game. Six damage a turn is a real clock and the ability to kill any creature your opponent draws makes it very hard for most decks to win after you’ve assembled the two pieces. This is less true versus Abrupt Decay decks and is the reason why drawing multiple Seismic Assaults isn’t always a bad thing. Seismic Assault puts a lot of strain on your Red mana so I’ve built my mana base accordingly.

Manlands are the last win condition. The ‘enter the battlefield tapped’ drawback often doesn’t matter much. They truly shine on empty boards, a board state that is likely to happen with all the discard and removal. They can also be recurred with Life from the Loam. Also, game 2 and 3 they become better since our opponents are very likely to side in some graveyard hate.

The discard

raven's crimeCaw! Caw! goes the raven

Raven’s Crime is the main reason to play black in this deck. Combined with Life from the Loam, you can literally annihilate your opponent’s hand. The strong presence of combo decks in the format makes this interaction very potent. The deck also plays 25 lands so Retracing it a few time shouldn’t be a problem even if you don’t start with Life from the Loam in your opening hand. Every time you Loam and cast Raven’s Crime you basically 3 for 1 your opponent until he has no cards in hand. This strategy is very good against control decks as well, counterspells are pretty useless versus Raven’s Crime. If they can counter your Life from the Loam, sometimes this will be annoying if your hand is left with no lands but you can always Dredge it back later. Playing Raven’s Crime makes having access to multiple black mana a must, especially on the first few turns of the game. This is why I run as many black mana-producing lands as I can. Just beware of cards like Loxodon Smiter, Wilt-Leaf Liege and Obstinate Baloth !

A 1-1 split between Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize is best i think. We already take some damage from our lands so just one Thoughtseize. Inquisition is better vs aggro and Thoughtseize is better at taking away things like Cryptic Command.

The removal

I believe Abrupt Decay is a very good card right now. It can kill most relevant creatures in the format and is also is an answer to problematic hate cards such as Rest in Peace. Also, it can safely halt most creature-based combos and it kills random non-creatures too.For smaller creatures we have Flame Jab. Flame Jab is pretty good vs. specific decks, namely decks with mana dorks, decks with tokens and Affinity decks. It is also very useful combined with Young Pyromancer, just throw Jabs to the face and make lots of tokens. Flame Jab can also finish off a planeswalker or bigger creatures with lots of red mana and Life from the Loam.

Darkblast is sort of like Flame Jab, except it is instant speed, fills up our graveyard, can’t be thrown to the face and is harder to use multiple times against large creatures. This is why i think a 1-1 split between it and Flame Jab is the best. It can be a nice surprise with Young Pyromancer, just Darkblast an attacking creature, make a token and ambush the creature ! You can cast it additional times if you use it during your upkeep and then Dredge it. The card disadvantage isn’t that bad since you are filling your graveyard anyway (which is what we’re aiming for). You can do more tricks with it and Horizon Canopy.

Smallpox is a very disruptive spell and it doesn’t affect us as much as our opponents (most of the time). Discarding a card isn’t a problem, we can Loam back sacrificed lands and our only creature is Young Pyromancer  plus we can sacrifice the token Smallpox created. ‘Edict’ effects are good at taking down bigger threats that the deck can’t handle without Seismic Assault, provided we kill small creatures beforehand. On the play we can hit an Urzatron lands if our opponent leads with them and Celestial Colonnade which UW/x players often play first.

The engines

Life from the Loam is the centerpiece of this deck, but it is possible to win without them (usually via Lingering Souls and Young Pyromancer). In this deck, getting 3 lands is the equivalent of getting 3 spells a lot of the time.

Faithless Looting is basically draw 2 for one mana with Flashback since many of our cards operate from the graveyard. You can also Loam and just discard 2 lands. Also, if you draw multiple Seismic Assaults and don’t need them you can ‘loot’ them away. You can also discard Lingering Souls when you don’t have access to your Godless Shrine or Horizon Canopy.

The lands

25 lands is the minimum requirement for this deck since you get lots of value from them. Topdecking a land isn’t as bad as it can be in other decks because you can generally do something with it. The basic lands are a concession to Blood Moon, Path to Exile and Ghost Quarter. If you expect your opponent to play Blood Moon , then you should always search for your basic Forest so you can keep on Loaming. Also sometimes you don’t want to take damage from fetched lands, so having the option of getting a basic is nice.

blood moonBoo! the fun police is in the house

Horizon Canopy can do a lot of work. Firstly,  it is an additional white source which is sometimes useful. Secondly, you can Loam it and still draw your card for the turn. Lastly, with Horizon Canopy as your sixth land and with 2 other Green mana sources:  you can Loam 2 times a turn. Just Dredge and cast Life from the Loam, play Horizon Canopy, Dredge Loam with Canopy’s draw ability and Loam again. With Seismic Assault you get 5 lands to discard to it each turn, which is very useful when you need to end the game quickly. The damage from the mana ability can be an issue so one copy of Horizon Canopy is the maximum we can run in my opinion.

Ghost Quarter is general hate vs. special lands. It helps against Tron and kills Celestial Colonnade as well as other manlands that are found in a lot of decks in the Modern format. The deck is pretty color intensive so we only run one in order to avoid mana problems. Having a recurring way to handle problem lands seems good enough. Against a few decks that run almost no basic Lands you can even cut them off from a color and mana screw them. This won’t happen often as most decks run enough basic to prevent that from happening. In match-ups were Ghost Quarter is useless, we can side it out for Vault of the Archangel.

In Conclusion …

Aggro Loam is a hard deck to classify. It has aggro elements in the form of token beat down (or Tarmogoyf, Knight of the Reliquary and Countryside Crusher in the other version), lots of control elements with all the discard and removal as well as combo-ish interactions with Seismic Assault and Life from the Loam.

The deck is vulnerable to graveyard hate but we have access to Abrupt Decay and Engineered Explosives to get rid of those. Explosives is extra good vs specific deck like Aura Hexproof, Merfolk, Affinity, etc. We have access to 4 colors so we can even kill the occasional Leyline of Sanctity and Restoration Angels, if need be. Ancient Grudge can be an answer to Pithing Needle (on Seismic Assault), Grafdigger’s Cage, Relic of Progenitus, etc. You get extra value from them when they get Dredged. Anger of the Gods can replace some Smallpox vs. Birthing Pod decks. Duress is good additional discard and can replace removal vs. creature-light decks. Combined with Surgical Extraction, we can get free wins when facing combo decks. Syphon Life is here vs. burn, which is probably this deck’s worst match-up. Vengeful Pharaoh is tech vs. creature decks. When it triggers and goes back on top or your library, you can Dredge Life from the Loam and send it back in the graveyard or just discard it to Faithless Looting or Smallpox. Vault of the Archangel can make our tokens trade with anything and the life gain as well.

The worst thing that can happen to us is Surgical Extraction on Life from the Loam, it becomes very difficult (but not impossible) to win after that. Remember, if you have Horizon Canopy on the battlefield, you can play around Surgical Extraction  by ‘cycling ‘ dredging it in response. Just keep Loaming and play Hoprizon Canopy after Life from the Loam has resolved without passing priority. Scavenging Ooze can be a problem but we have main deck answers to that. Just kill it on the spot (if you can) whenever you see it! A trick to kill them with Flame Jab is to cast it on ooze and retrace multiple times without passing priority, your opponent will then not have the opportunity to exile your Flame Jab since it will always be on the stack when the opponent gets priority. Another weakness of the deck is GR Tron namely because of their maindeck Relic of Progenitus.

Life from the Loam is a powerful card advantage engine. If you like playing with your graveyard, then I suggest you give this deck a spin!

The Raw Deal Cube

raw deal cube

by James Kandziolka

Hey all! James Kandziolka here.

I had left playing Raw Deal over the past five years or so to pursue other hobbies. Recently, Pat Eshghy and I were on a road trip talking about cubes and how much we loved the WOW TCG Cube (another now dead card game). The conversation turned into two little kids on Christmas morning talking about designing a Raw Deal cube. What started as just an idea consumed my mind over the past week and led me to design the following Raw Deal cube. There is an additional step when cubing in Raw Deal, but I will describe it in detail a bit later. Ultimately, Raw Deal was such an enjoyable card flopping moment in my life and I know that a cube will allow future moments with old friends and card floppers to enjoy some sweet nostalgia while getting that card gaming fix.

What is a cube?

For those of you who are new to the concept of a cube, the general concept is quite simple: a cube is a pool of cards that can be randomized, organized into packs, and used to draft. Regardless of the type of cube you prefer, the truth remains that cube drafting is one of the most skill-intensive limited formats around. The way that cubes are designed makes it so that each card in the pool is of a fairly similar quality. This creates an unusual situation where every card in all of the packs is at least considerable for a player’s deck. You might expect that since each card is relatively good that the decisions are easier since you have more reasonable choices. The opposite is actually true. The relative homogeneity of the power levels means that each choice needs to be tailored to the exact deck you’re trying to build. There are going to be cards that are much better in one deck type than another, even though both are still quite good.

Raw Deal had raw draft in the past. This was the closest the game ever got to a limited format, but it would equate to a sealed deck format. We tried drafting Raw Deal in the past, but you could tell it just was not designed to be drafted. Loving the limited format in card games more than the constructed, I remember wanting this for Raw Deal back in the day. Sadly, it was not really achievable. Creating a cube would allow this once defeated idea to become a reality. I can see the toughts of: “Do I first pick Backlash since the odds of someone having that one Backlash in a cube is so low?” “Can I wheel these Face cards around the table?” “Should I jump out of some superstar specifics because I want to draft Raw when some of my superstar specifics are Smackdown ?” This is also the first iteration of a Raw Deal cube, so I am looking for feedback and your thoughts. Please comment and share what you like or dislike. The better the feedback, the better the cube is for all of us.
The current Raw Deal cube is 480 cards consisting of :

100 reversals.

100 antics/actions.

50 prematch.

50 midmatch.

180 maneuvers.

I hand-selected cards from the Revolution sets to be in the cube. There are only cards that interacted with pre-Revolution cards in the classic Raw Deal sense. I am not knocking Revolution era raw deal. I just preferred to design my cube this way. Feel free to use this first model to design your own cube off of it. Strikes, grapples, and submissions are evenly distributed among the non-0 cost maneuvers. There are high risks in the cube as well, but about 100 of the maneuvers in the cube cost 0 fortitude. They are too crucial to play the game that we love. I strongly recommend not pulling these out of the cube when designing your own.

superkick ss3 front chancery

0- fortitude maneuvers are the bread and butter of any deck in WWE: Raw Deal

1) Completely randomize the cube. This may take 10 minutes as you really want it shuffled up.

2) Each player will make 5 packs with 12 cards in each pack. Once the packs are made you are ready to start drafting. With most other games’ cubes you just draft and build. Raw Deal has the added power of superstars and their specifics. After some tweaks there are 50 superstar sets to be played with the cube. Certain superstars (Andre, Carlito, etc.) were excluded from the list of superstars due to their ability being too strong for gameplay.

3) You will notice that there are only five cards attached to each superstar. So how do we determine which superstar you are? You randomly select a number of superstars equal to the number of people drafting the cube. Now, players will be bidding a number from 1 to 5 on superstars and the cards in their pool. Randomly determine who starts the bidding. If you win Eddie Guerrero and his pool after bidding 3, you will select 3 of his superstar specifics in his pool to not have access to during deck building. You determine which cards you won’t use after you have drafted cards for your deck. You don’t do it right there on the spot in the bidding process. Eventually the last person will get the last superstar, but they are not required to bid a number. The advantage of getting the last pick is that you get access to all 5 superstar specifics where everyone else has to lose one.

4) Now you enter the draft portion. Look at your first pack. Pick one card. Put it face down in front of you and pass the pack face down to your left. Everyone else will be doing this at the same time. Everyone does this for all 12 of their picks in pack one. The cards you are picking are the cards you are building your deck with. The second pack you will be doing the same thing except this pack goes to the right. The third pack to the left. The fourth pack to the right. The last pack to the left.
5) Now you have sixty cards, your superstar, and some superstar specifics to build a deck. Each player will also have access to:

3 Step Aside
3 Escape Move
3 Break the Hold
3 Oversell Maneuver/No Sell Maneuver (depending on your superstar)

If the draft went bad for you reversal-wise, don’t worry as you have access to these 12 reversals when you start deck building. You do not have to use all or any of them. You just have access to them like everyone else at this point in time. Remember you are still restricted by the rules that you can not pack face cards while packing heel cards, Raw cards while packing Smackdown cards, and Cheater cards while packing Fan Favorite cards. The only adjustment to previous rules in the game is that female superstars are allowed to play Multi maneuvers where they previously could not. Basically, ignore the “can not be played by female superstars” text on Multi maneuvers. Now you build your deck and start playing some games.

Ah! Good old Punch!

You don’t need to get a full eight people to draft the cube. You can do it with 4 or 6 players. If you only have one other buddy with you to play, have no worries. You can play a heads up sealed cube match where each of you get 7 packs of twelve cards and a choice between two random superstar with their cards as well as 3 Escape Move, 3 Step Aside, 3 Break the Hold, and 3 Oversell Maneuver/No Sell Maneuver to build your decks out of.

Before building your decks in heads up play you get to choose one of your 5 Superstar cards. Your opponent then gets to choose one of the four superstar cards you did not choose. The card your opponent chose will not be a part of your deck or backlash deck. I am sure there are other variants people can come up with as well. The short list for cubing goes as follows:

1. Randomly pick superstars and their superstar sets equal to the number of players.

2. Bid 1-5 on superstars players want except for the last pick (they get all 5 cards with their superstar).

3. Draft 5 packs of 12 cards each.

4. Determine which superstar cards you don’t use equal to the number you bid.

5. Build your deck with access to 12 additional reversals.

6. Play and have fun.
