Just sharing a great little article I found from a local Montrealer, Jordan Boisvert. The article pertains to Modern and people’s attitudes and approache to it. Great little read!

Another From the Vault: Angels card was spoiled today. Her best days are way behind her, but many a player will remember Serra Angel for being downright awesome (some even in recent limited formats). That Rebecca Guay art is pretty awsome on a foily card. It was originally used on an alternate art oversize promo a long time ago, yet still stands out for its sheer beauty.
Who knows what other angels are in store for this latest From the Vault?
Bird, bird , bird! Bird is the Word!
We go back to Standard land when September’s FNM promo comes around. This small defensive value creature saw some amounts of play in Mardu Dragons builds as an early blocker that also survived Anger of the Gods. Considering the rise of red deck recently, it might just make a small comeback too.

The artwork makes this little guy look much more majestic than it really is. The Wall of Omens comparisons are a little exaggerated since you can’t really flicker it back into play and draw a card like you can with Restoration Angel and Wall of Omens in Modern. Still, when you’re blocking a Mantis Rider all day long – it shouldn’t matter as much. It will probably not drive as many older format or casual players to FNMs in the month of September, but I believe this particular promo is just fine.

A couple of new angels now revealed:
These two were pretty pricey for a while, though Iona lost a lot of her value on the Modern Master 2015 reprint. We also have Red and White Akromas confirmed earlier on. Most players are obviously hoping for Baneslayer Angel (which is probably the new art previewed when the product was announced) as well as Linvala, keeper of Silence.

Uh….
August’s FNM promo is a spicy pricey one ! With no Ponder, Brainstorm or Preordain in the format, Serum Visions becomes the premier cantrip/card selection card in blue. It’s played in almost every blue deck especially in Grixis Delver where it sets up your Delver of Secrets flips and fills up your graveyard to cast Gurmag Angler or Tasigur on the cheap. It allows you to keep a sketchy hand in a deck with a low land count since you get to dig 3 cards deep in order to hit that second land.
While the art is not as great as on the original card, I’m sure most players won’t care much. Being able to net one of these 12-15$ cards in a FNM (just as with Path to Exile the previous month) will most likely increase store attendance somewhat. The art is rather disturbing to some though, hinting at some rather inappropriate activity (for a Magic card at least). Run to your local gaming store and show off your drafting skills on Friday to become eligible in winning one of these.
Serum Visions was never a ‘big’ deal before. Originally printed in Fifth Dawn, this card was literally a throw-away common at the end of Mirrodin block drafts. Years later, every similar card gets banned in a new format and it slowly rises in value month by month until we have this inflated value. It was also an FNM promo a while back too and not many people cared about that one either. Now people are willing to trade Mythics, rares and also sorts of good things for it.Funny how things change, eh?
