Wrath of the Mortals

Another new Magic: the Gathering set means another Event Deck. This particular one is an Izzet (Blue/Red) Heroic Deck. While there are not many cards with the Heroic keyword (just 1 to be precise), the deck does seem somewhat decent. The main complain that most people have had thus far is that there is very little to no value in this particular Event Deck.

Let’s examine the list:

I won’t go over the value card by card this time around, because there’s not much to say really. On the upside, the deck seems like a blast to play and is probably a decent deck for a newer player to pick up at a local FNM Standard event. Guttersnipe and Young Pyromancer outshine pretty much every rare in the deck as they are what holds the deck together. In true Izzet fashion, you get to ‘storm’ spells and burn your opponent little by little while gaining a small army of elementals. It’s not for everyone, but it will teach newer players how things work in the world of Magic.

You also have your good old Aetherling to close out a lengthy game. Get a few quick hits in, if they stabilize you still have a finisher or two. Same can be said for Spellheart Chimera. I really like it in this deck for a creature that has pretty much gone ignored in the Standard metagame. It’s a nice touch.
