New Playmats Feature the Schematic Artwork for the Retro Frame Artifacts Included in New Set
Ultra PRO will release Magic: The Gathering – The Brothers’ War Schematic Playmats into retail on December 2, 2022. These playmats feature the popular schematic artwork for the retro frame artifacts from Magic: The Gathering – The Brothers’ War (see “‘Magic: The Gathering – The Brothers’ War’ Product Line”). The mats are made with a soft fabric top and a non-slip rubber backing to keep the playmat from shifting on a tabletop. These playmats measure approximately 24″ by 13.5″ and also make a good oversize mousepad for home or office.
onami Digital Entertainment revealed Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG: Maze of Memories, a new booster set, for release on March 10, 2023. Maze of Memories brings back classic cards into the game. It features Yugi’s first Ritual Monster, Black Luster Soldier – Legendary Swordsman, as well as the Duel Academy Field Spell and Accel Synchro Stardust Dragon. The set also contains new World Premiere cards that revitalize the Paradox Brothers’ Gate Guardian. The set breaks down to include 42 rares, 15 super rares, and 10 ultra rares. Additionally, 15 cards will also available as Collector’s Rare.
Booster packs contains 7 cards (1 foil card per pack and 6 Rare cards). Packs will retail for $4.49 each.

It’s once again that time of year where WotC sends out a holiday promo to various partners and retail stores. This year the promo is a riff on the “Chaos Warp” card entitled “Chaos Wrap”:

The owner of target permanent shuffles it into their library. Then they look at the top card of their library and may wrap it. If it’s a permanent card, they may put it onto the battlefield. Otherwise, they put it onto the battlefield face down as a 4/4 red Present creature. (To wrap a card, put it inside lots of sleeves. If it would be dealt damage or destroyed, remove a sleeve from it instead.)

Arcane Tinmen unveiled the Dragon Shield Valentines Dragons 2023 accessories for release into retail on January 13, 2023. The new standard-sized sleeves feature new brushed art depicting the marriage of a dragon couple. The standard-sized sleeves come 100-count in boxes that have a writing field on them for organizational purposes. They will retail for $14.99. The Japanese-sized sleeves come in 60 to a box for $9.49.
The Dragon Shield Valentines Dragons 2023 playmat features a soft fabric surface and rubber, nonslip back. Edges of the playmat are stitched and rounded to prevent fraying. This playmat will retail for $20.99.
Wizards of the Coast revealed new product line details for Dominaria Remastered, a new limited run reprint set, which will release on January 13, 2023. This reprint set was announced back in August 2022 as part of larger drop of product announcements (see “‘Dominaria Remastered'”). The set will offer players reprints of cards from Magic’s three decades of previous sets. These cards will be printed with new card treatments and artwork themed after the Dominaria setting.
There are two product configurations for this set: Draft Boosters and Collector Boosters. The Draft Booster displays come with 36 Dominaria Remastered Draft Boosters, which contain 15 Magic cards and an ad/token that are optimized for drafting. The rarity breakdown is as follows: 1 card of rarity rare or higher, 2 to 4 uncommons, 9 to 11 commons, and a Retro Land card. Traditional foils replace a common in 33% of boosters, and every pack has a retro-frame card of any rarity. A traditional foil retro-frame mythic rare appears in less than 1% of boosters.
Dominaria Remastered Collector Booster Boxes come with 12 packs, and each pack contains a 15 Magic: The Gathering cards and traditional double-sided foil token. Each pack contains 11 foil cards. The pack rarity breakdown is as follows: 3 to 4 cards of rarity rare or higher, 2 to 6 uncommons, 5 to 9 commons, and a foil Retro Land card. A traditional foil retro-frame mythic rare appears in 9% of Collector Boosters.

The Hasbro Board of Directors has been re-elected, defeating the effort by Alta Fox Capital Management to shake up its roster, Hasbro announced today, pending final ratification of the election results. After making a splash as it urged Hasbro to spin off Wizards of the Coast in February (see “Hedge Fund Urging Hasbro to Spin Off WotC”), Alta Fox proposed five of its directors for the board, then cut that to three (see “Funds Urge Compromise”), and finally to one, who was defeated in the shareholder vote announced today.
Although Alta Fox was able to pick up some support for its efforts, the win of the existing board slate was by “a substantial margin,” according to the company. “As the vote indicates, our highly skilled and recently refreshed Board possesses experience and expertise directly relevant to overseeing Hasbro’s world class portfolio of assets across multiple play and entertainment categories,” the company said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Our directors will be instrumental to [current Hasbro CEO, former WotC president] Chris [Cocks] as he undertakes a strategic review of the business and outlines our go-forward strategy to position Hasbro for long-term success and delivery of shareholder value.”
